Another centennial event!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ESTHER!

Born just shy of a 100 years after the infamous Battle of Beaverdams, Thorold’s own Esther Summers celebrates her own centenary!

A long time Sunday School teacher at Beaverdams Church, Esther is perhaps better known throughout southern Ontario as a renowned local historian. Her meticulous records and extensive archival material relating to local genealogy and history was transferred to the Mayholme Foundation on Linwell Road in St Catharines several years ago. And, this is where an open house will be hosted to celebrate Esther’s birthday will be held from 2 until 4 on Sunday afternoon.

Pictured above, Beaverdams Church Community Centre Board co-chair David Cowan, Alun Hughes, Sarah King Head and chair Denise Bradden met with Esther in December 2011 while she was still a resident at Lookout Ridge in Fonthill. As ever, she amazed us all with her phenomenal memory and insights into local history!

Hundreds of people came to bring Esther birthday greetings and wish her felicitations on Sunday June 2nd at Mayholme Foundation in St Catharines.
